The Benefits of Digital Scrapbooking

and using Heritage Makers for content, creation and completion

1) No Mess – All of your supplies are available from any computer anywhere after you upload your photos. No need to spend tons of time getting supplies out just to have to put them away again! And if you have to leave in the middle of a project, just hit save and walk away!
2) The Undo Button – Anything you do can be undone. Be bold – try something new! No ruined photos or products.
3) No Waste – All digital items are reusable and easily recolored. You’re not buying a pack of stickers and only using 1.
4) Photo Manipulation – You can enlarge and crop your photos, change the colors, turn them black and white, tint them. There are so many things you can do to your photos to help make them stand out in your layouts. No need to go to the photo lab to get a photo enlarged and no more cropping mistakes!
5) Multiple Copies – You can create multiple copies of SCRAPBOOK PAGES, STORYBOOKS, CARDS, CALENDARS, PLAYING CARDS, ETC. ETC. for friends and family without having to make the same page over and over again.
6) Preservation – All photos are preserved on the Heritage Makers website in full resolution with unlimited storage for a Premier Account. All your completed projects are also archived so you can always reprint when needed.
7) Time – Digital scrapbooking can take less time by using our premade templates in the template gallery. These are great for Professionals, Busy Moms or anyone without a lot of time or creative juices. Just “swap” your pictures into these premade projects and voila you’re done!
8) Different Styles and Projects – Paper scrapbooking encompasses many different shapes and styles, and so does digital scrapbooking! There are even techniques and projects within our website that cannot be recreated on paper, such as the photo posters and gallery wrapped canvases.
Check out all the different styles in the Template Gallery
There are more ways to share your projects than in just one paper scrapbook. Digital scrapbooking makes it easier to share your projects with friends and family through blog posts, email, facebook with a flip preview or sending them a copy of their own.
Let me help you get started with digital scrapbooking with Heritage Makers.  Its easy, its fun, and you’ll finally be doing something with your photos and their stories.  Ready to get started? Click here for the how-to or contact me!

Heritage Makers Christmas Gift and Decor Ideas with Scrapbook pages!

Christmas gifts and decor ideas with scrapbook pages!

Don't have a lot of money this holiday season but still want to give a gift from your heart?
Have I got the answer for you! Heritage Makers scrapbook pages, a little time and a trip to the craft and or lumber store. In no time flat you will have a gift that will become priceless!
The 12x12 scrapbook pages are only $4 when you buy in a pack of 10, but if you get it through me they are $3.50 each. (Retail pack of 10 is $39.95, through me it is $34.95.) And you can get four gifts out of ONE PAGE!!! How's that for pinchin' pennies!
The links here go to templates found in the Heritage Makers template gallery. Remember that you don't have to have them come out just like that. The templates are for you to use, tear apart, add your own personal touches to (I hope you do) or destroy completely. I love using them as they help me get my creative juices flowing and I need all the help I can get! Some of the templates require Premier Membership which you can get a free month with your first ever order, or you can look for those that use Basic membership. I'll try to highlight those that use Basic for those who want it even less expensive.

These are great gifts for teachers--think coasters for their cup of coffee. Great gifts for grandma and grandpa. Great neighbor gifts, great coaches gifts (it is fall sport season). You can even make a smaller tile and make Christmas ornaments. If I get to it, I'll post a picture later of that creation.

Blocks:
These wood blocks are easy to make. You can do just about any size wood block you want. I've included the instructions for the block, just simply cut out the wood blocks to fit the size of your images.

Items needed:
  • Your peronalized 12x12 scrapbook page
  • Wood block (2x4 scraps are fine)
  • Paint to match your scrapbook pages (use your creative talents here)
  • Modge Podge (sold at crafts stores--I like the Matte finish)
  • Sponge paint brush
  • A hard edge (ruler, credit card, scraper, etc.)
  • Newspapers
  • Time & Love!
Instructions:

  1. Cut the wood blocks out to size.

  2. Sand and paint with a matching color.

  3. While the paint is drying carefully cut apart the 12x12 scarpbook page into the pieces needed to finish the product. You may need to take a matching sharpie marker to color the cut edges.

  4. Spread the newspaper out to cover your work surface.

  5. Following the direction on the modge podge spread a think layer on the front side of the wood.

  6. Carefully place the cut out scrapbook image on the wood as you desire.

  7. Follow the direction on thd Modge Podge bottle to adhear your image to your blocks by spreading a thin layer of modge podge on the wood blocks. Place your images where you want them on the blocks. Add another thin layer over the images.

  8. Using the credit card (or another hard edged utensle) smooth out any bubbles in your design.

  9. Let it dry (I like to let it sit over night) and then put on a thin second coat making sure to remove any bubbles again.

  10. Let dry.

  11. You are done except for the gift card and wrapping!

EASY and INEXPENSIVE!
For the above template see Heritage blocks or Simple Sweet Baby Girls Blocks (there is a boys version too) or how about creating your own set of wood blocks that spell your name or a holiday or something special you want out on your mantel?

Cubes:

This couldn't be simpler!

First: Design your 2 pages of 12x12 (use this as a template) jsut remember to do 2 pages!. Each page makes 1 1/2 cubes--each cube takes six photos and there are nine 3x3 images per 12x12 page. Remember to use your imagination while making these! Order them and when they come cut them apart.
Second: Purchse three 3x3 acrylic photo cubes from your local craft store (I buy mine at Wal-Mart).
Third: Insert your photos into the cube.
Finally: Give to your loved one to display on their dest at work, their mantel or coffee table. Instant gift full of love.

Tiles:

I love these! Great coasters or mantel pieces.
You can take a 12x12 page for only $4 and a 16 4x4 tiles, 4 6x6 tiles or 1 12x12 tile and make a personalized gift that will be prominantly and proudly displayed in the home. It is so simple it almost feels like cheeting.

Here is what you need.
  • Your peronalized 12x12 scrapbook page
  • Tiles(s)
  • Paint to match your scrapbook pages (use your creative talents here)
  • Modge Podge (sold at crafts stores--I like the Matte finish)
  • Sponge paint brush
  • A hard edge (ruler, credit card, scraper, etc.)
  • Newspapers
  • Time & Love!!
Instructions:
  1. Spread the newspaper out to cover your work surface.
  2. Following the direction on the modge podge spread a think layer on the front side of the tile.
  3. Carefully place the cut out scrapbook image on the tile as you desire.
  4. Follow the direction on thd Modge Podge bottle to adhear your image to your tiles(s) by spreading a thin layer of modge podge on the tile. Place your images where you want them on the tile. Add another thin layer over the images.
  5. Using the credit card (or another hard edged utensle) smooth out any bubbles in your design.
  6. Let it dry (I like to let it sit over night) and then put on a thin second coat making sure to remove any bubbles again.
  7. Let dry.
  8. You are done except for the gift card and wrapping!
Remember that you get FOUR 6x6 tiles on a 12x12 page--that mean you get 4 gifts for only $4 plus a little extra for the tile--but remember you don't have to be choosey on the tile at Home Depot!

Here are some photos of great templates that are in the template gallery that might get your juices flowin'.

4- 6x6 on a 12x12 for tiles This one has directions on page two of the template!

Coasters 4x4
Christmas tiles
Holy Night (1 12x12 tile) so elegant

FONT
TIPS

NEW
Fonts
in
Studio
Choosing fonts for your project can be a bit daunting. You want to make sure you pick fonts that go together, and you don't want to over burden your page by having too many fonts. So, to help you out, we're providing Fonts 101: a quick tutorial to help you pick the right fonts for your project. To get started, you'll need to know the difference between serif and sans serif fonts.

Serif fonts have finishing strokes on the end of the letter, such as in this font. Examples include Garamond and Times New Roman.

Sans serif fonts do not have finishing strokes on the end of the letter, such as the title of this article. Examples include Arial and Calibri.

Now that you know the difference between serif and sans serif fonts, you'll understand what we mean when we talk about combining the two.
There are two basic types of text you will apply fonts to. One is the title. The other is the body or copy of your story. To begin, let's talk about the title.

First off, you may have many different titles to deal with depending on your project. If you are doing a poster or a canvas, you will most likely have one title. If you are doing a storybook, you will have the main title of the book and, possibly, sub titles within the book. Make your title consistent to help keep the flow from page to page.

When designing your title, you will want to pick no more than two fonts. As a bit of advice, we would recommend that you do not choose two serif fonts or two sans serif fonts. Mix it up a little. You can choose a fancy font such as Broadway, then add a serif or sans serif font to the mix. Or you can replace that fancy front with a script font such as Shishoni. Or you can go elegant simple and combine a serif and a sans serif font.

For the copy or main text, you will want to choose a readable font. Choose a simple serif or sans serif font, no fancy fonts or script fonts. Good fonts are Garmond, Times New Roman, Avenir, and Trajan. The goal is to help ease the work of your readers. They don't want to stare at a long piece of writing, trying to figure out what it says, which is what they will do with a script font. (Save script fonts for titles or small pieces of text).

Now you have it. Go ahead and try new title designs. You'll be surprised at what great designs you can come up with.
